Our Summer reading program reaches the finish line…

Saturday July 18th marked the end of our Summer reading program “Ready, Set, Read” for 2016. A picnic was held outside in the lot next to the library. Hot dogs, chips, snow cones, and ice cream were given to each child and their family that completed the program. After the picnic the children were led upstairs where donated prizes were raffled off. Thank you so much to the parents, children, volunteers, and donators who helped make this year’s summer reading program a success. A very special thanks goes out to Monessen’s Redevelopment Authority for the use of the lot for our picnic. Keep reading and keep visiting us every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at the Monessen Children’s Library!

Throughout the Summer reading program the children were encouraged to learn about healthy eating,  movement, and general well being.  On July 16th the children participated in a fitness circuit outside on the patio area of the library.  Several stations were set up for the children to go through,  they were timed and then each were given a reusable water bottle as a prize to further encourage healthy habits. Yay for fun and fitness!

The children’s department continued the day at the Monessen Community Civic center  where they preformed games and outreach programs for the free lunch program. Don’t forget there is no programming on Monday July 4th due to the holiday and this Saturday we will be celebrating the 4th with a special movement program titled Red White and Move!
